From VA to PA!

Today’s total: 410 miles. 7 hours.

Today is Aug. 15, and the day started with a move-out inspection from our apartment in Suffolk, VA. This was the first place that we signed a lease together and we moved in shortly after we returned from our honeymoon. We loved the apartment, the management company and apartment complex itself (Clairmont at Harbourview Suffolk) – definitely do not recommend.

Nonetheless, we couldn’t have gotten everything done in time without the wonderful work of our friends and their housekeeping companies. We do HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!!! Look at those carpet lines! BEAUTIFUL!

(pssst… if you are in Chesapeake/Suffolk area and need someone to make your house look amazing on a weekly, monthly or for a move in/out, look up Dust to Dawn, or if you are in the Richmond Area look up Rise & Shine).

Anyways, back to preparing to move.

Nerves are high for the upcoming drive and move to Pennsylvania and at 10 a.m. it’s already 101 degrees outside with the heat index.

We start our road trip and immediately it starts pouring. Hopefully this isn’t a bad omen. But, we want to make it a positive start to our trip – and besides everything Jay and I do ends up with water – rain, sweat/heat, etc. haha! It’s a running inside joke.

Our first date it was about a million degrees and we both sweated through our shirts. Each time we have moved it has been raining or 100+ degree – or both.

We joked when we got married we should hold the ceremony in the snow so we weren’t hot and sweaty – instead, we got married July 3, in the middle of the summer. We also joke about moving to Alaska to prevent the consistent year-round heat, and endless summer rain storms. But, knowing us, this means we will probably end up moving to some place hotter and rainier than Virginia! Nonetheless, regardless of the weather, rain, or sweat we are still so excited to begin this adventure – together.

Jay had to take a work conference call, and although he can normally use the truck’s integrated system, it was raining SO bad he had to pull over so the callers could hear him. Roads were flooding, tree limbs were falling down – it was definitely a torrential downpour, and the rain put the truck’s tonneau cover and the waterproof containers to the test. All-in-all, our stuff stayed relatively dry!

Clearing skies showed the beautiful landscape and mountains as we got closer to our destination.

After more than seven hours, and about six hours of that being in rain, we finally, we arrived to our Air bnb and we are in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania.

We will update about the house we are staying in during another future post. As for us, we are heading to bed.
