We started the day off in Edmond, OK and visited Pop’s Soda Ranch in Acadia. It’s basically a fun and silly convenience store with lots of random sodas and snacks. They also have a 66 ft soda the statue outside that I’ve heard looks beautiful when it is lit up in the evening.

We made our way to the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum – it was a very cool place! We checked out a few classic cars, including a black 1967 Pontiac Tempest – gorgeous! We also chatted with a few people also traveling Route 66 in their own classic cars. It’s nice seeing the same faces and cars in different stops along the way. We took a few photos and bought a few souvenirs and headed on our way.

We soon found our way in Shamrock, Texas, where we visited the U Drop Inn. We read a bunch of history and learned that this location was one of many reflected in the Disney movie Cars.

We stretched our legs for a minute in McLean, while making sure we watched out their snakes.

Once back in the car, we visited the leaning tower of Texas in Groom, and then wandered into Amarillo.

Once in Amarillo, the wind kicked up horribly! But, we still checked out the Slug Bug Ranch, and the iconic Cadillac Ranch.

Next, we found ourselves in Adrian, at the midpoint of Route 66. We talked to a bunch of fellow travelers as well as staff that worked at the midpoint. – the consensus was to be very aware of the impending storm and wind. So we took a few photos bought a few souvenirs and hit the road quickly.

We were right at the edge of the storm, and although the wind and rain were definitely fierce, we were able to make it into Tucumcari for the night.

As I write this it’s still storming terribly, and the hotel we are staying at even lost power briefly. I’m thankful we called it an early night.
Tomorrow we are heading towards the Arizona border and hopefully we will find sunny skies.
